Our number 1 Priority
Our number 1 priority here at Holiday Aquatics has to be the Welfare of Animals.
Although we can’t enforce any rules upon our customers we do the next best thing and give them access to quality information regarding any set up of new tanks.
All our material is provided by OATA through their website so you know the information is from a reliable source.
All we ask of our customers is they read, read and read more before taking the plunge into Fish keeping, were not saying always think big but instead think about what you want and what can be achieved with your purchase or what you are looking to purchase.
For Aquariums we would suggest not going too big but getting something manageable. Once you have your sparkly new tank now its time to get things started. Start slow and let things settle make sure you have cycled your tank, don’t rush into buying fish.
For Ponds we would suggest the opposite and think big, it’s a lot more difficult in changing a pond than it is an aquarium. Always go for as big as you can fit and try and go deep, the deeper the better as this will help keep your fish warm during the winter months. Think about safety of you and others when thinking of where your ponds going to be. Also consider shade for your fish, a shaded pond will also have the benefit of reduced algae blooms. We would suggest always planning for a UV Filter, not only will it help in controlling diseases but it will help in reducing algae blooms.
As your tank or pond is cycling, why not read up on fish behaviours, how many fish will fit in your tank / pond and what each fish would grow to and what fish is compatible with what. Theres nothing worse in getting two species of fish that just chase each other round the tank 24/7 stressing each other out or if you have a Marine buying a fish that’s not compatible with corals and then the fish starts nipping at the coral stressing it out.
If in doubt ask from purchasing your hardware to purchasing your livestock, fish keeping should be enjoyable and if you do it right it will be and it will bring you hours hopefully years of joy !
You can find the OATA reading documents here : http://www.holidayaquatics.com/starting-up-an-aquarium-or-pond-13-w.asp

New Background added to Webpage
Thanks to some great help, we've managed to get a background to our website.
I think the background and editing pulls the web page to the front but also breaks up all the white with the nice under the ocean picture, why not let us know what you think ?

New lights Category added
We have just added a few lights to our categorys for Tropical and Marine.
Some nice TMC LED lights suitable for Nano tanks or in multiples for larger tanks.
Hopefully in the next few weeks we should be adding more LED lights.
Why LED, well LED's are the way forward we must accept that and why shouldn't we the initial cost might be high but the saving of electricity far outways the initial cost. Just look at our home lights they are all changing to LED, why to save you money and the environment !
Check out the range : http://www.holidayaquatics.com/tropical--lighting-59-c.asp
